The first stamp produced for air mail from the Princess Helen Antarctic Research Station (PHARS) on Ross Island, Antarctica. Mail is despatched via the USA McMurdo Base or 'Little America' ten miles from PHARS. The air mail stamp is a NVI format and shows the volcano Mount Erebus on Ross Island, named after HMS Erebus in January 1841. A Ross Dependency stamp is superimposed showing HMS Erebus and Mt. Erebus from 1967. The Paulovia State Arms and the PHARS flag complete the design. [Image not actual size]

Withdrawn from sale on 13th July 2010 for official use. This set in se-tenant strip format is now only available as a Miniature Sheet.
